Individual Psychotherapy

We all sometimes experience difficulties for which we are unprepared.  People enter therapy for any number of concerns.  The motivation to seek help often reflects three fundamental features: you are facing a tough life challenge, your typical ways of coping aren’t working any longer, and you are in pain.

Therapy offers you the chance for lasting and meaningful change, to transform your experience in such a way to live a richer and more rewarding life.  One client described her change process in this way:

My world used to be just black and white.  I had no idea that I could see the world in any other way.  Now it has lots of color and I feel alive.  I couldn’t imagine feeling this way before, or that living another way was even possible.

I believe that we all have an innate aptitude for growth, and therapy is a place for you to access this capacity.  A positive therapy experience will provide you with the safety and respect to explore your experiences and feelings, discover yourself and your capabilities, and develop new skills.

If you have never sought therapy or have had a negative therapy experience, you may be reluctant to start therapy.  Of course you are!  You may wonder Can I change? Or Can you help me?  These are common and fair questions to ask.

Because finding a therapist who is a good fit is of utmost importance, I offer a no-cost consultation to all prospective clients.  Please join me for a cup of tea to discuss your situation, chart a course for how we might work together, and ask any questions about therapy and how I can help you.

People seek help from me for a variety of concerns, including:

  • Anxiety

  • Complex Trauma and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

  • EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)

  • Relationship and family of origin concerns

  • Attachment injury

  • Sexual trauma

  • Depression and other mood concerns

  • Dissociation, including Dissociative Identity Disorder

  • Self-injury

In therapy, the overall outcome includes feeling more satisfied and effective in your life. These changes happen in the context of a respectful working relationship between client and therapist.  I will collaborate with you to identify and set specific goals and together we will work toward meaningful change. Because everyone’s personality and style is different, I individualize my approach.
